Medicine Man
04:14
|
|||
I woke up one morning and my car wouldn't start
my head was pounding, I couldn't find my shoes
These were the symptoms of a newly broken heart
My pride was burned and my ego had a bruise
I figured I would tell her it was all a mistake
if I could right my wrongs I wouldn't be left for dead
I was tired of all the bullshit, and the same old heartache
A pack of dogged thoughts was racing through my head
But I had a friend who knew me better,
she said, Raph don't write that letter,
we all fuck up, ya gotta live until you're dead.
And I got somewhere we should go,
'cause there's someone you should know
And here's what she said,
I'll take you down to the medicine man
Knock on the door, say Let us in, man
He'll feed us sandwiches of lettuce and ham
Send us on our way
He'll say All you gotta do, to fix that whole in you
Is sing your song, and let whiskey do the rest
Wasn't sure if I believed her, but I thought What the hell?
Heaven knows, I ain't got much to lose
At the end of the adventure, I'd have a story to tell
and if I stayed sad, I could still sing you the blues
But I got a new tune that I'm singin'
since my friend sent my head spinnin'
We tripped along until my troubles fell forgot
and that man we went to see, really had a hold on me
Just like she thought
We went down to the medicine man
Knocked on the door, said Let us in, man
He fed us sandwiches of lettuce and ham
Sent us on our way
He said, All you gotta do, to fix that whole in you
Is sing your song, and let whiskey do the rest
So if you wake up some morning and your tank's out of gas
If you can't untie that bowline in your mind
Well you hafta just trust me, Friend, that feeling it never lasts
but we all need help sometimes
And if you do, there's the medicine man
Knock on the door, say lemme in man
He'll make you choose between salami and ham
send you on your way
He'll say all you gotta do, to fix that whole in you
Is sing your song and let whiskey do the rest
Yeah, sing your song, and let whiskey do the rest

Thank You
04:22
|
|||
Ready or not
I'm gonna find you
Whether we make it or not
I'd like to thank you
Under my jump shot
In the un-itchable spot
That's where I'll find you
Inked to the arms of the city
Between the lines of graffiti
That's where you'll find me
The price of gas up and down
The pills and cash up and down
The gym rats up and down
This city spins round and round
And my mind goes round and round
Whether we're hungry enough
Whether we're made out for this stuff
I'm gonna find you
Our most unalienable right
The one we whisper at night
I'm gonna love you

Carry Me Over
03:59
|
|||
Carry me over
don't let me down
Carry me over
I don't wanna touch the ground
Bonnie said to Clyde, boy I love you but you better run
they got our pictures in the paper and the story's already been spun
but Clyde just sighed, and then replied
girl you're gonna spoil the fun
and the pen might beat the sword, but Bonnie babe I've got a gun
He said
Carry me over
just shut up and drive
Carry me over
I just wanna stay alive
Bobby said to Joanie, why you lyin' wide awake at night?
I got a lullaby to sing you, but the words ain't comin out right
but Joan just moaned, and then intoned
I'd rather pick a tune than a fight
I'm wearing boots of spanish leather, and the boots are feelin' awful tight
She said
Carry me over
just lay me down
Carry me over
I don't wanna hear a sound
Jackie said to Johnny, are you sorry that we went to war?
I've seen the soldiers on the TV, and I wondered what we're doin' this for.
but John just yawned, and then went on,
girl you know we've been here before
and the people think it's waving, but our flag is draggin' on the floor
and now nation knows I'm lying, so I'm crawlin', Jackie, out the door
He said
Cover me over
bury me deep
Cover me over
I just wanna get some sleep
Yeah he said
Carry me over
don't shoot me down
Carry me over
I don't wanna hit the ground

Sometimes I can't trust my brain
Keeps spitting out these same refrains
I ask for pride, and he gives me pain
So I can't trust my brain
Sometimes I can't eat my words
They're hard to catch, like headless birds
Too tough to chew once they've been heard
I can't eat my words
Sometimes I've got fire for eyes
Burning red like some sunrise
I aint winkin' honey, I'm catching flies
Oh I've got fire for eyes
Well, I'm not getting any younger
and I'm not getting any dumber
I still can't tell spring from summer, but I'm learning to
I'm learning to feel better
Ah man...
Sometimes I can't hear the rain
No steady drum on my windowpane
'fraid this weather is all in vain
When I can't trust my brain

Holes
03:35
|
|||
It's been a while since I left town
Missing someone
With headlights fixed on Texas
And a heart in Oregon
It's been miles of only looking out
For number one
And the summer's come and gone
I've been digging holes
But the dirt keeps pouring in
I've been lighting coals
But they're no match for the wind
You found a hole in me
About the size of you
Honey is there a hole in you too
It's been a while since the coffee
Tasted like it should
It's been a while since the sadness
Felt this good
It's been miles since I left you
Just as slowly as I could
With Orion smiling down
I've been digging holes
But the dirt keeps pouring in
I've been lighting coals
But they're no match for the wind
You found a hole in me
About the size of you
Honey is there a hole in you too
When my mind is worn
By the details of the day
I stare into the evening
And I try to spell your name

Song for Alison
04:13
|
|||
Well it's hard to stay sad when it's summer outside
You keep finding yourself at the beach
With the sun beating down on those tears that you cried
and the tide's setting just out of reach
Smoke in your eyes and sand on your tongue
The afternoon's over before it's begun
But this day isn't ending the way that it should
'cause the sun ain't setting, but Lord I wish it would
Well you'll swim to the lighthouse, I'll swim to the shore
the ocean ain't always my friend
and it seems like my home's not my home anymore
But nothing this good really ends
Smoke in your eyes and wind in your hair
The hurricane's howling, but she ain't runnin' scared
She says, Honey the storm's where the memories get made
and the clouds ain't coming, but man I miss the shade
She was drinking red wine in a lavender field,
Mm mm mm
and the sky was on fire like a tangerine peel
MM mm mm
Smoke in your eyes and sand in your teeth
Missing her hands in that spot you can't reach
Now asleep you know better, but awake you're no good
and the sun ain't setting, but Lord I wish it would
Yeah the sun ain't setting but Lord I wish it would
Oh the sun ain't setting but Lord I wish it would, I wish it would, I wish it would
The sun ain't setting but Lord, I wish it would

Broken
06:23
|
|||
My bicycle is broken
It's sat out in the rain
For half a year
A sticky gear
Busted spoke
Rusted chain
An old Raleigh
With a silver frame
My prize possession
First impression
cost me 50 bucks but
I can't bare to let it go
To admit that I've outgrown
Broken and I love just the same
The storm has finally broken
He said there's no moon tonight
Shooting stars
Late night bars
The Calvary
Is fast asleep
I've never felt this free
So can't we please
Can't we please
Just be afraid
Afraid of all the mystery
Broken and I love you just the same
I'm think I've finally broken
She confessed to me last night
A cheating man
A bad hand
Motherless
Cannibis
Constipated
Stress Related
No intercourse
Since the divorce
I did my best
To hear the rest
She said no one understands what I mean
Began to scream
Broken and I love you just the same
Broken and I love you just the same
A heart that's newly broken
Beats on
What's blue below
Bleeds red outside
A broken heart
Can never hide
The glazed look
You're stuck behind
If I was brave
I'd ask to see
Though you may not agree
Can a broken heart feel love just the same?
He said there's nothing broken
But I can't leave my room
The bills are paid
The beds are made
The kids have every game to play
Yesterday's like every day
I've lost the drive
To feel alive
To shed tears
Drink shitty beers
I've taken all
And lost the narrative
With nothing left to give
Broken and I love you just the same
Can a broken heart feel love just the same?
Broken and I love you just the same
